Sunkee Angel opens a new chapter and reintroduces herself in a new music video from TransAlien Studios and inRage Entertainment with “Montganistan.”

The video features electric clips in a school building, as well as footage from her high school days at Sidney Lanier High School. She discusses her past trauma and what she had to deal with while hiding her true self in Montgomery, Alabama as a teen.
She pays homage to her hometown in the first half with an enticing rap, then dives deeper into her struggles as a transgender woman in the latter half in ethereal spoken word. The beginning is upbeat and fast-paced as she describes her hometown with references to her former high school and March 23rd, which is a widely known celebration in Montgomery. In Ridgecrest, March 23rd is a holiday where cars and dancing occur on the streets. Sunkee included March 23rd to honor the death of Naughty Shawty of the group Deuce Komradz, who died on March 25th, two days after the holiday. She also references the Montgomery Riverfront brawl, a large-scale altercation on a riverfront dock in August of 2023.
She makes a reference to her comedy alter ego, Aunt T. Jackie, known best for her viral TikTok song, “Piss On The Floor.”
The end features more clips and photos from Sunkee’s high school days as she describes the troubles and issues she went through with her identity and being a transgender woman in the South. She talks about the burdens her former self had to carry throughout high school and the spiritual journey she had to endure to become the woman she is today.
As Sunkee says in the song, she is reintroducing herself to her audience and her hometown as her past self no longer exists. The video embodies the death of her former self, Alvin Butler, and brings Sunkee Angel to life.
Sunkee’s vibrant hair and costumes are a highlight of the music video, coupled with bright backgrounds and flashing lights throughout. Her dance moves encapsulate her character and unveils the radiance and exuberance of Sunkee Angel.
In the song and video, she gives a shout out to radio station 97.9 JAMZ, who played the song on their airwaves in her hometown of Montgomery, Alabama.
Sunkee Angel will be performing at San Francisco Pride on Saturday, June 28th at Civic Center Plaza.
